The Netherlands has experienced a relatively easy match in the round of 1/8 World Cup 2022 . Just having to clash with a weaker opponent, the US team, helped Van Dijk and his teammates win without having to spend too much effort, thereby participating in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, things come to Argentina much more difficult. Thought it would be easy to win against the representative from Asia, but Messi and his teammates had to work very hard. Australia's rise in the last minutes made Argentina almost have to hate.
However, with the bravery of a big man, Argentina stood firm to beat the opponent with a score of 2-1 and win a ticket to participate in the round of 8 strongest teams.
Recently, a supercomputer called Five Thirty Eight has made its specific predictions about the highlight match of the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals between the Netherlands and Argentina. Accordingly, Five Thirty Eight analyzed and indicated that La Albiceleste were the higher rated ones with a 58% chance of winning. This number with Orange Vortex is 42%.
These are completely reasonable numbers when in fact Argentina is still slightly better than the Netherlands.
To be able to come up with the above numbers, the Five Thirty Eight supercomputer has applied three steps of analysis, including:
- Calculate the number of goals we expect each team to score in the match. These projected match scores represent the number of goals each team will need to score to maintain the same offensive rating as at the start of the match.
- Generate two Poisson distributions around the scores to give the probability that each team will not score at all, one goal, two goals, etc.
- Take two Poisson distributions and turn them into a matrix of all possible match scores to calculate the probability of winning, losing or drawing for each team. To avoid undercounting draws, the supercomputer increases the corresponding probabilities in the matrix.
With technology-based analysis and accurate statistics, the Five Thirty Eight supercomputer regularly makes accurate predictions about the outcome of matches. Previously, this supercomputer also made similar predictions at previous tournaments, including the 2014 World Cup and the 2018 World Cup.
